Mathieu Asselin

Mathieu Asselin employs non-traditional documentary photography creating a new narrative, using a unique lighting technique and artistic approach, where his eye leads us into a world where location, memory and time are fluid impressions to the reconstruction of stories closer to the truth "at least the truth the way I see it.”

Born in 1973 in the south of France, at the age of 16 Asselin started working on film production in Venezuela. In his early 20s, Mathieu moved to Europe, where he joined the French photo agency L’ Oeil du Sud. In 2005, Mathieu moved to New York City and established himself as a professional commercial and documentary photographer.

His work has being the recipe of numerous prizes and mentions, including: The Grand Prize One Life Photography Award and the Sony World Photography Awards-Documentary Portrait Shortlist. Mathieu Asselin’s work been exhibited throughout the United States and Latin America and includes: Solo exhibition at Artists Wanted NY - Portraits of a Tornado Path, organized by the International Center of Photography NY - Occupy Exhibiting Powerful Images from the 99 Percent, Espacio Mad Collective.
